Hey,

I recently completed a long awaited project for my 40 gal breeder reef tank. I have just finished the SS hood and have some questions about lighting. I have a 250mh light currently on a garbage pendant and was wondering if I could run the lamp in some sort of a ventilated cool tube and enclose the top of the hood? The hood extends 7" from the top of the water and the tube would be mounded to another piece of SS enclosing the top about 75%. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I was devastated and still in disbelief. I had friends of lfs I was supplied corals to on a reglar bases. But all gone by a simple oversight by someone who wasn't thinking outside their work agenda. I myself had gotten used to my system being self maintaining and didn't worry about it to much. But then suddenly realized my self induced comfort levels was sticking time bomb with no back up electrical plan. Basically no power no operating systems. Now I'm back to the drawing boards with a new tank only 3 months old now.

I have a little Pico SW tank that's been going about two months. I have two live rocks in there, one was purple with coralline algae and the other wasn't when I bought them.

The tank has nice coralline growth. Plenty of it on the tank walls, in the filter, on shells, etc. However, the other rock hasn't had any noticeable or detectable growth of coralline algae. I'm not really too concerned, but I am curious as to why that would be.

I don't know the origination of the rock, but it is natural rock, whitish in color, looking like other reef coral rock I've seen.

Any other inanimate objects I put in have coralline algae growing on it in a few days. I'd appreciate your insight.
I have seen pictures of PVC frame and egg crate used separately but not together. Ideas, suggestions, etc.
